Puppy's first week home
Your puppy’s first week home should be a quiet one. You can take this opportunity to begin the foundation of potty training your puppy by taking your puppy out often to go potty. Crate training your Whoodle can aid in the potty training process. Use the first week to introduce your dog to his new name, and to become familiarized with the family. Bonding with your Whoodle is one of the key points that will set the stage for a lifetime of adventures.
Registering your Whoodle's micro chip
When your Whoodle comes home to you, your puppy will already be microchipped. However, you will still need to ensure the microchip get’s registered under your name. This way if your dog ever gets lost, he can be returned to you when found using the contact information found on the microchip.
Spaying/Neutering your Whoodle
Spaying or neutering your Whoodle is a great way to care for their reproductive health. These are some of the most common surgeries performed on any animal. Vaccinating your Whoodle
Vaccines work to improve your Whoodle’s immune system which helps your puppy be able to protect itself against certain diseases. Our Whoodles receive their first vaccinations around 7 weeks of age. They will be ready for their second set of vaccinations around 10 weeks. Your Whoodle puppy comes with an information packet that shows the schedule for continued vaccinations to keep your puppy healthy and safe.
Environment
Keep a clean and protected environment for your dog. Having a crate or shelter he can retreat to can help him feel more comfortable and safe at home. Making sure things are clean in the home can reduce injury when romping around the house and also reduce the likelihood of spreading germs throughout the house. Always keep any hazardous materials put away out of reach of your Whoodle.
Proper dental care, Grooming & Nail trimming
Single coated dogs are more likely to develop matts in their Hair. This is one of the main reasons that Whoodles do require regular grooming and dental care. Overgrown nails are prone to breakage which can cause further issues if left without the proper care. It’s important to ensure the nails are trimmed to avoid pain for your Whoodle when walking.
Training
Yes, training. Training (whether you do it yourself or hire a trainer) is a great way to put “caring for your Whoodle” into action. All dogs and puppies need basic training to ensure their safety out in the world. Having the basic “sit, stay, come” commands established can very well save your dog’s life in a dangerous situation! Health & Diet
Feeding your Whoodle a quality diet is an excellent way to care for his needs. Having fresh water available 24/7 is a good place to start. Make your dog food selection based on the nutritional needs of your dog, and with dietary recommendations of your veterinarian in mind. Once the dog food is decided, avoid over feeding the animal as this can cause obesity. Whoodles can suffer adverse effects on their health simply due to being overweight. Providing healthy treats as rewards during training and keeping an eye on your dogs daily food intake is an excellent way to protect his health and is a key part in caring for your Whoodle.
