My Whoodle

How Much Exercise does a Woodle need?

Like any puppy, a Whoodle has its own needs like proper grooming, diet, and especially getting the right amount of exercise. Whoodles can be a fairly active, intelligent breed, and this is always something to think about when searching for your next companion.  While Whoodles don’t necessarily have the energy to go on a long hike every single day like some super active breeds require, they will ask for regular exercise as an outlet for their daily zoomies. A good walk in the morning and evening or just an engaging game of fetch will go a long way to making your puppy happy, healthy, and give you a good excuse to get some good fresh air.

But there are other things to consider.

Whoodle Size Make a Difference

Given the relatively new development of this breed, Whoodles can come in different sizes. In general you can expect your fur baby to be either a bit on the smaller side or a bit on the larger side. My Whoodle breeds both Mini and Standard sizes, and will be able to assist you in finding the perfect size of puppy! Whether you’ve gotten a Mini Whoodle or a Standard size Whoodle, you will want to be able to plan for the kind of activity time to prepare for as you plan your time together.

The biggest difference you will notice with a Mini and a Standard size Whoodle is how much exercise they will need physically. Your Mini Whoodle won’t need quite as much physical activity as the Standard, though both Mini and Standard Whoodles require similar levels of mental stimulation to stay happy and well behaved.

A good 15 minute walk twice a day will typically satisfy your Mini Whoodle just fine, whereas the Standard can benefit from 30 to 45 minutes of exercise twice a day!  You can rest assured though that if the little rascals ever want more exercise you can be sure they will let you know it’s play time!

Life Stages

Just like people, dogs go through all the same life stages. From toddler, to adolescent, young adult , mature adult and senior. It is important to take your Whoodle’s age into account when deciding how much exercise they need, or can handle. Your young puppy could be very playful and need several short play sessions per day. A middle aged Whoodle will thrive on a consistent exercise schedule. Your elderly dog may not be able to handle the same level of physical stimulation and would much prefer leisurely walks and less strenuous outlets. By understanding your Whoodle’s life stage, you can provide the right amount and type of exercise to keep them happy and healthy at every age.

Whoodle Mental Exercise

Just as important as it is to take your Whoodle on regular walks to keep them physically in shape, is their mental stimulation. This is a pretty smart breed and can learn training and tricks quite quickly, but this can also turn pretty destructive if left unattended. There are a lot of ways to keep them active and engaged, whether it’s playing fetch, teaching them tricks, playing with other dogs at dog parks, or even dog treat puzzles. There are lot of ways to keep their clever mind churning and active. Having a healthy dose of mental stimulation will balance out physical needs quite a bit with your Whoodle, and keep them in good shape. Don’t be deceived by the size of your puppy in terms of mental stimulation though! Your Whoodle may seem like they will take less mental stimulation the smaller they are, but they tend to have the same if not a bit more energy for playtime when they are smaller.

They are quite a well-rounded breed and are a great addition to any family that enjoys the daily flow of exercise and playtime! With the right balance of care and attention, your Whoodle will be a loving and lively companion for years to come.
